Online platforms, BellaNaija and The She Tank have unveiled an initiative designed to advance women’s financial independence.

The initiative seeks to break down barriers and equip women with the resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities needed to achieve their financial goals.

The platforms, which boast a vast following across the continent, announced the initiative as part of a broader campaign to raise awareness about the need to elevate Nigerian women’s economic power.

The campaign is seen as a key step toward achieving gender equality and reducing poverty in the country.

In a joint statement on Friday, BellaNaija and The She Tank unveiled the campaign, tagged “Her Money, Her Power,” aimed at addressing the economic challenges Nigerian women continue to face.

The Founder of The She Tank, Blessing Omakwu said, “Our campaign seeks to elevate the conversation around women’s economic advancement by highlighting the critical distinction between empowerment and power.

“When a woman has economic power, she doesn’t just gain access to resources and systems that create prosperity—she also gains a voice and a choice. Her contributions are valued, and she has agency, including the ability to make decisions about her financial future.”

Despite some progress in Nigeria, gender gaps in areas like wage equality, access to capital, and leadership roles persist, often stemming from cultural beliefs about women’s roles in the economy.

This campaign, featuring a television segment on Big Brother Nigeria, a digital series on BellaNaija’s platforms, and a comprehensive ad campaign on Multichoice, aims to challenge these stereotypes and foster a national conversation about women’s economic power.

Founder of BellaNaija, Uche Pedro, also spoke about the broader impact of the initiative, “Our society stands to gain significantly from women’s economic power. It brings fulfillment to women, financial stability to families, and resilience to communities. Empowering women economically sparks joy, strengthens the nation’s economy, and contributes to long-term prosperity.”

Founded by Omakwu, The She Tank is a creative think-tank dedicated to challenging gender norms and advocating for women’s power. Omakwu, who previously served as Deputy Director for Global Content and Campaigns at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, focuses on initiatives that intersect gender equality, pop culture, and religion.
BellaNaija, founded in 2006 by Uche Pedro, is one of Africa’s leading lifestyle, media, and entertainment companies. With over 11 million people engaging with its digital platforms, BellaNaija continues to spark conversation, celebrate progress, and inspire positive change across Africa and beyond.

The #HerMoneyHerPower campaign is calling on Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to join the conversation, ask questions, and contribute their voices. Through this collective effort, the initiative aims to spark a ripple effect of empowerment that will drive lasting change.
