Operatives of the Department of State Security have arrested President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero.

Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Monday while waiting to board aircraft to London, United Kingdom.

The NLC President is billed to attend international Labor Union Conference in the UK.

According to sources who spoke to the newspaper, Ajaero has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Ajaero was reportedly on his to attend the conference of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the UK.

Ajaero had asked that the police invitation asking him and the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, to come for questioning should be rescheduled.

He asked that the invitation should be moved from September 5, 2024 to September 25, 2024.

Counsel for the NLC, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), who accompanied Ajaero to the police headquarters for his first appearance on August 29, had disclosed that the labour leaders might seek a postponement of the interrogation.
