Professor Siyan Oyeweso, Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, has congratulated the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), on the occasion of the 2024 Olojo Festival.

The Olojo Festival, dedicated to Ogun, the god of iron, is a significant cultural event for the Yoruba people, offering opportunities for prayer, sacrifice, and community bonding.

Professor Oyeweso praised Oba Ogunwusi’s commitment to promoting Yoruba culture globally and his efforts to champion economic development, youth empowerment, peace, and stability in Yorubaland.

“His Imperial Majesty’s dedication to the promotion of tourism in Yorubaland is beyond doubt, as he has explored every avenue to open people’s eyes to the tourism potential of Yorubaland”, he said.

“This has also manifested in his zealous efforts to promote the Olojo and other traditional festivals in Ile-Ife and across Yorubaland, which have opened a floodgate of opportunities for people of varioukinds, as it has facilitated investment, created job opportunities, and provided a platform for setting the agenda for peace, security, stability, and unity across Yorubaland in particular, and Nigeria in general.”

The professor also commended the Ooni’s dedication to tourism development, highlighting the festival’s theme, “Evolving Transformational Domestic Tourism with Community Festivals.”

He encouraged Yoruba people and the Black community to support the Ooni’s cultural promotion agenda and embody the ideals of Omoluabi.

 

The Obafemi Awolowo University Governing Council and the Ile-Ife community joined in extending congratulations to the Ooni, traditional chiefs, princes, and princesses on this joyous occasion.
