The Kwara State Police Command on Friday said that three officers who were dismissed in connection with the killing of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Qoyum Ishola, have been charged in court.

The Command disclosed that the three dismissed officers, Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip, would face trial on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, stating “all three have been remanded in prison custody.”

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, read “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the three dismissed officers, Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip, have been charged to court on 16th October, 2024.

“They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola. They have been remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.”

Recall the Command vowed that it would prosecute the three police officers found guilty of allegedly killing Ishola, an ND II student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, in the court of competent jurisdiction.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Victor Olaiya, in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, on Monday night, said the police authorities had dismissed the three officers found culpable in the student’s killing.

Ishola, a 21-year-old student of the Department of Electrical Electronics of Kwara State Polytechnic was allegedly murdered by the police during a stop and search operation at the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4, 2024.

 

Following the tragic death, students of the polytechnic embarked on a protest at the headquarters of the state police command and the Government House demanding justice for the student.

The Student Union Government of the Kwara State Polytechnic demanded an open investigation from the Nigeria Police Force to uncover the killer of the late student.
