In a noteworthy development, the House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s recommendation to appoint Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff.

This approval was granted on Thursday, November 28. Oluyede stepped into the role of acting Chief of Army Staff following the illness and eventual death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

President Tinubu’s letter seeking confirmation was presented on the House floor on Tuesday, November 26. Subsequently, an ad-hoc committee, led by Babajimi Benson, Chair of the House Committee on Defence, was established on Wednesday to evaluate Oluyede’s qualifications.

The committee’s report, delivered on Thursday morning, endorsed Oluyede’s confirmation, highlighting his exceptional leadership skills, professionalism, and dedication to national security.

In his correspondence to the House, President Tinubu emphasized Oluyede’s qualifications, extensive experience, and significant contributions to both the Nigerian Army and the country as a whole. The President expressed confidence in Oluyede’s ability to effectively steer the Nigerian Army, ensuring the nation’s security and stability.

The House unanimously accepted the committee’s recommendation, officially confirming Oluyede as Chief of Army Staff. This decision is viewed as a vital move towards enhancing Nigeria’s ongoing stability and security.
