Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and representatives of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Asiru Olatoye Olaniyan over the death of the late Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff.
The State government and Army teams also paid a visit to the family of Late Lt Gen. Lagbaja to commiserate with them over the passing of one of them.
The Governor while addressing the residents at the palace of Olobu of Ilobu land, Adeleke expressed his sadness over the exit of the great icon and promised the resident that the ongoing projects in the community will be completed, while his government will also look at a way to immortalize the departed soul.
“Anytime we speak, the late General always calls for peace among his people. His message even at death is that the people of Ilobu and Ifon should live in peace and unity.
“Let us honour the memory of our late brother and maintain peace. We cannot afford any bloodshed again. It is time to see each other as one and push for common development of our local government and state”, the Governor told the king and community leaders.”
Speaking at the event, Major General Kamal Ishola Yusuf, who represented the Nigerian Army, said the military hierarchy condoled with the monarch and the family.
He said the late Army Chief will be given a State Burial as directed by President Bola Tinubu
“Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja died as a hero and he will be given a State Burial as directed by President Bola Tinubu, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces. He will be buried at the Military cemetery in Abuja.”
Yusuf added that the Military is aware of ongoing projects in Ilobu, Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun and we’ll ensure all are completed as soon as possible. We will not abandon any of them.”
Lamenting the loss, Oba Olaniyan described the death of Lagbaja as a personal loss to him.
The grieving Monarch called on Nigerian Army to ensure support the community and ensure any projects to immortalize the late military chief is brought to Ilobu.
After visiting the Palace, the Governor and the team visited the family of the late Army Chief to deliver the condolence message to them.
