President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday rescheduled the Federal Executive Council meeting to a yet-to-be-announced date.

“Initially scheduled for today, the council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night,” Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced on Wednesday.

The statement was titled, ‘Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting.’

After announcing the postponement at the Council Chamber, Vice President Kashim Shettima led other council members in observing a minute’s silence in honour of the late Army Chief.

Shettima also announced that ministers would proceed to Tinubu’s official residence to pay him a condolence visit, saying, “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do.”

“The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will convene all of you at the residence,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He wished Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and honoured his significant contributions to the nation.

Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from 19 June 2023 until his death on 5 November 2024.

Tinubu also ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days in honour of the late general.
