Dr. Folorunsho Emmanuel Awoniyi, a lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), has won the prestigious Best Doctoral Thesis Award at the University of Ibadan’s 76th convocation ceremony held on Monday.

 

Dr. Awoniyi’s groundbreaking research, titled “A Phonological Study of Selected Yoruba English Broca’s Aphasics at the University College Hospital, Ibadan,” earned a top score of 70.7%, outshining 62 entries from Arts and Humanities disciplines.

 

The award, which includes a ₦500,000 cash prize and a commemorative plaque, recognizes Dr. Awoniyi’s outstanding academic contributions and research excellence. He described the achievement as a testament to divine guidance and the support of mentors and institutions.

 

“I give all glory, honour, and adoration to God Almighty for His divine wisdom and inspiration that guided me throughout my Ph.D. journey,” Dr. Awoniyi said. He also expressed gratitude to the University of Ibadan for fostering academic excellence and to Osun State University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Odunayo Adebooye, for creating a supportive environment for scholars.

 

He extended special thanks to his colleagues for their encouragement and contributions, stating, “May God continue to bless and uphold us all.”

 

Dr. Awoniyi’s award reinforces UNIOSUN’s commitment to academic excellence and highlights the significant impact of rigorous research in advancing linguistic and communication studies.
