The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has invited Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and other critics to visit the Port Harcourt refinery and see its operations firsthand.
This invitation follows NNPCL’s assertion that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is fully operational, with active loading activities.
In a statement issued Wednesday, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye noted that the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, addressed the issue during the commissioning of the NUPENG Towers in Lagos.
Kyari also addressed concerns surrounding product blending at the refinery, emphasizing that blending is an essential part of the refining process.
“Without blending, off-spec products would be produced, which could damage vehicles. Blending ensures products meet the specific standards of different countries or regions,” he explained.
He highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s executive interventions in the oil and gas sector are driving increased investments and job creation.
Last week, NNPCL announced the commencement of crude processing and the truckout of petroleum products at the Port Harcourt refinery. However, the announcement has sparked skepticism, with some questioning the facility’s viability and operational authenticity.
