Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed his decision to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, stating he has no regrets.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State who served for eight years under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was appointed FCT Minister by President Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Ochigba, organized by the PDP in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the ministerial role. Despite facing threats over his electoral support for Tinubu, Wike insisted he would make the same choice again.
“I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing,” Wike declared.
Addressing allegations of land grabbing in Abuja, Wike dismissed the claims as baseless, emphasizing his oversight responsibilities as FCT Minister.
“I am in charge of lands in Abuja; how will I go and grab what I am in charge of?” he queried, describing the accusations as laughable.
He warned individuals occupying government land improperly to adhere to due process or risk losing their allocations.
Wike also commended President Tinubu for the opportunity to manage the FCT, highlighting its unique challenges compared to governing Rivers State due to its national significance.
“No matter the propaganda or names you call me, the right thing must be done,” Wike concluded.
