It was a moment of praise as the Women in Politics, a wing of the Osun State All Progressives Congress presented awards of Excellence on some individuals who have been strong supporters of he-for-she.
The event, held in Osogbo on Friday, saw respectable individuals bagging meritorious awards for their philanthropism, selfless service, excellent leadership and contributions to the APC in Osun State.
Among those honoured is the immediate past Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (rtd), a leader of the APC, Chief Shuaibu Oyedokun, among others.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of Osun Women in Politics, Alhaja Kehinde Salami described the event as a way of recognizing those who have done well for the Party and women and to encourage others to emulate them.
She said, “General Adewinmbi is a philanthropist of repute. He can do anything for others to survive and has done well for so many individuals. There are many programmes, many journeys that he has been sponsoring us. He has been empowering many women both in the state and their local government Ede local government. So for these reasons General Adewinmbi deserves to be honored.”
Salami advised others to emulate the gesture of the APC stalwart by supporting others.
“My message for the leaders is to emulate such a behavior and character. It’s the best for survival of all in the society. So for the leaders I will encourage them to always emulate the activities and the behavior of the General.
While speaking with the newsmen after the awards, Brig. Gen. Adewimbi said he was not expecting the honour but appreciated the Women in Politics for counting him worthy of the award.
He said, “There is always a saying, that character is like smoke anywhere you are your character will reflect who you are. I had about Osun Women in Politics and I don’t even know how they are operating and I don’t know about their affiliation, because they just feel that yes they deemed it fit to honour me. They know the reason why they have done that so we should appreciate them and to appreciate God.”
Adewinmbi promised to continue serving people and supporting their aspirations.
Interfaith prayers were also held for the Osun APC, the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the leaders of the party in Osun.
