A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Yusuf Dingyadi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his administration’s approach to the nation’s economy.

He called on the President to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians amidst the current economic challenges.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, Dingyadi noted that the Federal Government’s failure to provide basic necessities has increased poverty, hunger, and insecurity across the country.

“President Tinubu’s government appears more focused on introducing policies that exacerbate agony and suppress Nigerians.

“Our people are more impoverished and lack clear direction concerning the nation’s unity. Even previously vocal activists have now compromised, becoming tools for political propaganda against ordinary Nigerians.

“Most members of the National Assembly have abandoned measures to improve the lives of Nigerians, becoming more of a burden on the survival of ordinary citizens,” Dingyadi stated.

The opposition party chieftain stressed the need for the government to reassess its approach, as citizens face immense hardship and poverty.

He added that the worsening security situation has significantly impacted food production, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

“The current system has placed greater suffering and burdens on citizens, with many struggling to make ends meet.

“Specifically, people in the northern region, particularly in states like Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Kaduna, who were once self-sufficient in food production, can no longer feed themselves due to the deteriorating security situation.

“This has disrupted their farming activities, which were previously carried out for commercial purposes. We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive actions, but so far, his efforts have been ineffective. It’s like trying to catch a fish in a river without showing someone how it’s done.

“As leaders, you should demonstrate how things are done so that people can follow and benefit,” Dingyadi said.
