Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), the Labour Party’s (LP) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election, has officially declared his intention to contest in the 2027 governorship race.

GRV, who gained prominence during his 2023 campaign, lost to the incumbent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Rhodes-Vivour reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing his political aspirations.

“By God’s grace, yes,” he said when asked if he would vie for the governorship in 2027, signaling his determination not to abandon his ambition.

However, he remained tight-lipped on whether he would contest under the Labour Party or seek an alternative platform.

GRV emphasized the need for unity among opposition parties to counter what he described as “state capture” in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“I believe that if all parties do not come together, it is going to be a waste of time running in 2027 because there is a full state capture happening in this country now. We cannot afford for the opposition to be separate,” he stated.

While stressing the importance of collaboration, Rhodes-Vivour added that his current focus is strengthening the Labour Party.

His declaration sets the stage for a potentially dynamic and collaborative approach to the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
