Nollywood actress Ini Edo has opened up about her fertility journey, revealing that after years of unsuccessful attempts to carry a pregnancy, she turned to surrogacy to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother.
In a candid conversation on the reality TV series Young, Famous & African, the 42-year-old actress discussed her long and challenging struggle with infertility and how it impacted her life.
Edo explained that she married at 26 with the expectation of completing her childbearing by 31. However, persistent fertility issues disrupted those plans, causing her considerable emotional difficulty. Despite the challenges, she remained determined to become a mother.
“My journey is very personal, and I’ve never really wanted to discuss it,” she shared. “I never imagined I would have fertility issues. But I struggled with carrying pregnancies long-term, and it became clear that things wouldn’t go as I’d hoped. So, I decided to try surrogacy.”
Ini Edo made the decision to pursue surrogacy in 2023, a choice she had initially been reluctant to make public.
Previously, Edo was married to US-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but they divorced in 2014.
