Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant in 2025, emphasizing the need to hold political leaders accountable to safeguard the country’s democratic values.

In a New Year message shared on his verified X handle, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) highlighted the importance of public scrutiny in shaping the nation’s future.

“This New Year marks the beginning of a pivotal era, one that demands heightened public awareness and vigilance,” Atiku stated. “It is a time for every Nigerian to closely observe the actions and decisions of our political leaders.”

Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, Atiku stressed the need for citizens to protect democratic principles.

“I urge all Nigerians to actively participate in safeguarding our democracy. We must ensure that no one wields unchecked power or exploits public office for personal gain,” he added.

Atiku called for a renewed commitment to accountability, describing 2024 as a wake-up call for greater governmental transparency. He expressed gratitude for the resilience of Nigerians and the grace to witness another year despite the difficulties faced.

“The trials of the past year have fortified our faith,” he said. “Our unshakable belief in divine protection has been our guiding light, and this spirit will propel us forward in 2025.”

He further encouraged Nigerians to remain united, resisting divisive efforts along religious or ethnic lines. “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” Atiku noted, emphasizing the importance of collective action to prevent government overreach and protect fundamental rights.

Expressing hope for economic revitalization, he said, “I pray 2025 brings a fresh dawn, sweeping away the years of hardship that have stifled our nation’s growth. May this year bring liberation from economic challenges and a renewed sense of prosperity.”

Atiku concluded his message with a call for unity and resilience: “Let us not forget our fellow citizens who were less fortunate. Their struggles remind us of the urgent work ahead. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more unified nation. Wishing you all a prosperous New Year filled with blessings and success. -AA”
