Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has called for the resignation of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities.
Governor Mohammed claimed that Wike is working in the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and suggested that the minister should make his allegiance official by joining the party.
He rejected Wike’s attempts to tarnish his image, dismissing them as desperate and ineffective, insisting that Nigerians are not fooled by Wike’s alleged attempts to deceive the public.
The dispute between the two politicians deepened after Mohammed referred to Wike as a “transactional politician,” whose loyalties are driven by personal gain.
In retaliation, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, criticized Mohammed, calling him a greedy politician. He also accused Mohammed of failing as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and suggested that Mohammed used Wike’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu to cover up his own failures.
However, Mohammed responded through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, who dismissed Wike’s comments as reckless and misleading.
Gidado pointed out Wike’s history of betrayal, listing several prominent figures, including Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, as victims of Wike’s alleged disloyalty.
The statement also criticized Wike’s role in causing internal turmoil within the PDP, particularly his involvement in the removal of former party leaders Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.
“Wike should remember that while he tries to sow division within the PDP, the party remains strong and united, aside from a few defectors like him who are working against it for the benefit of the APC. He has clearly aligned himself with the ruling party,” the statement said.
The statement further emphasized that under Bala Mohammed’s leadership, the PDP Governors’ Forum and other key party bodies are focused on restoring the party’s unity, which has been compromised by Wike’s alleged disloyalty.
“Wike’s attempts to overshadow the progress made by Governor Mohammed are a sign of a man whose political influence is waning. The time for governance is now, not for petty bickering”.
“Wike should reflect on his actions and do the honorable thing—resign from the PDP and align with the APC, which he has clearly supported all along. Until then, his words will remain as empty as his loyalty,” the statement concluded.
