Actor Charles Inojie has argued that Nollywood should not be blamed for highlighting societal issues such as ritual killings and internet fraud.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Inojie emphasized that it’s not the films themselves but a deeper societal issue at play.
He explained, “Can we honestly say that all Nollywood films revolve around ritual themes? The mere existence of these stories suggests that practices like ritual killings for power, money, or spiritual gain are happening in our society. Rather than condemning these films, we should appreciate them for shedding light on these issues.”
Inojie further questioned the double standard when such themes are addressed in Nollywood films, pointing to real-life examples where people in power, including pastors and influential figures, engage in similar practices.
He asked, “Why is it when Nollywood portrays these issues, it faces backlash? Have we not witnessed cases where parents celebrate their children’s sudden wealth without questioning its source? Nollywood didn’t create these problems.”
The actor called for a return to strong family values, urging society to teach the younger generation the importance of hard work and the dangers of seeking shortcuts. “Nollywood is a reflection of a broken society, just like the rest of us,” he concluded. “It is not the cause of our problems.”
