Oladotun Kayode, better known as Do2dtun, has expressed concerns about the diminishing longevity of Nigerian music in recent years, attributing the trend to an oversaturated market focused on quick releases and streaming metrics.
In his comments, Do2dtun stated, “Most songs from the last five years lack staying power. It’s not that they’re not good, but the market is flooded with tracks rushed out in haste.”
He added, “It’s become more about being heard quickly—focused on numbers, rather than creating lasting value.”
Known for his forthright opinions on Nigeria’s entertainment industry, Do2dtun pointed out that the rapid expansion of the industry has led to a decline in artistry.
He cited factors like less thoughtful lyricism, a shift toward quantity over quality, and songs that fail to create lasting memories.
The Nigerian music scene, which has gained global recognition with stars like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, has seen an increase in releases as streaming platforms dominate the distribution landscape.
However, Do2dtun cautioned that this trend could result in an oversupply of music that lacks longevity.
He called on industry stakeholders to prioritize substance over numbers to protect the legacy of Nigerian music.
