Students have been advised to be creative and skillful in order to weather the financial challenges that they will encounter in their academic and fortune pursuits.

This was the peak of the discussion as the National Association of Gbongan Students held a leadership summit in honour of financial guru, Chief Adewuyi Adetunji FCA, the Babaoja Olufi of Gbongan land.

The event, which brought together eminent sons and daughters of Gbongan home and abroad, has theme “bridging the gaps: education, financial inclusion and community development”.

In his keynote address, the guest lecturer, Professor Olatunde Makanju recommended that for every society to develop, financial inclusion and digital literacy must be every stakeholder’s assignment.

The University Don called on stakeholders including students association to “design digital literacy campaigns to equip people with adequate knowledge and skills needed to achieve the benefit of digital financial services.”

“Integration of financial inclusion goals into government subsidy programs, as well as facilitating direct disbursement of subsidies to genuine beneficiaries’ bank accounts to encourage modern financial transaction / system.

“Community-based banking initiatives supported with access to financial services that motivate customers should be promoted and encouraged. Microfinance institutions should be supported with required facilities such as financial assistance, training programs, and favorable regulatory mechanisms that will assist their capacity in meeting the demands of the small businesses and low income earners in the society.”

He also emphasized on the need to motivate and encourage small businesses / local vendors to imbibe digital means of transaction to enhance financial inclusion and improve digital financial services within communities.

Earlier in his address, President of NAGS, Abiola Joshua Okikijesu said the event was to celebrate the achievements of Chief Adetunji and to reel out the achievements of the students body so far.

Okikijesu said, “As we gather here today, we celebrate not only the achievements of our honoree but also the progress we’ve made as a students’ association and as a community. Today, I want to reflect on our journey, honour the exceptional leadership of Adewuyi Adetunji, and look forward to the bright future ahead.

“Over the years, our students’ association has grown from strength to strength. We’ve witnessed significant improvements in student engagement, academic performance, and community service. Our association has become a beacon of excellence, fostering a culture of leadership, innovation, and collaboration. We’ve organized numerous events, workshops, and initiatives that have enhanced the overall student experience. As we move forward, we remain committed to empowering our members, promoting academic excellence, and building a stronger, more vibrant community.”

The students leader urged attendees to remain committed to our shared values of leadership, academic excellence, and community service. Let us continue to inspire, motivate, and support one another. Let us honour the legacy of Adewuyi Adetunji by emulating his example of selfless service and leadership. Together, we can achieve greatness and create a brighter future for ourselves and our community. Thank you.

Also present at the event was the Vice Chancellor of the Osun State University, Prof Clement Adebooye who urged the students to remain steadfast in pursuit of success.
