Peter Olasupo, a well-known broadcaster based in Ibadan, has been summoned by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) over allegations of criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
The broadcaster disclosed the development on his Facebook page, revealing that he received the official letter on December 30, 2024.
The letter requested Olasupo to report to INTERPOL’s headquarters at Force Headquarters, Shehu Shagari Way, Garki, Abuja, for further investigation.
Although initially scheduled for the same day, his appearance has been postponed to Monday, January 13, 2025, following a response from his legal counsel.
Olasupo recounted that the letter, addressed to him via his employer, prompted immediate action from his boss, who contacted their lawyer, Barrister Yomi Ogunlola. The lawyer intervened, resulting in the adjusted date for the INTERPOL meeting.
In his Facebook post, Olasupo expressed bewilderment over the summons and raised several questions about the allegations.
He wrote, “I recently received a letter with the headline Investigation Activities/Invitation Letter from INTERPOL regarding allegations of criminal defamation and cyberstalking. They requested I appear in Abuja on December 30, 2024.
“However, with my employer’s support and the intervention of Barrister Ogunlola, the date was rescheduled to January 13, 2025. I am left wondering Who reported me to INTERPOL? Why involve INTERPOL? Who is the actual victim here—me or someone else?
“At this time, I lack full details about the matter but will fully cooperate with the investigation. That said, I question why I must travel to Abuja when the Nigeria Police headquarters in Oyo State or even their Lagos office would be more convenient.
“Considering the current economic challenges, INTERPOL should at least provide travel allowances. Air travel is expensive, road travel is risky, and I doubt they’ll use a police helicopter for me. Regardless, I will comply with their instructions.”
Olasupo concluded by reassuring his supporters, saying, “To my fans, please know this does not affect my commitment to professionalism and integrity. I remain steadfast in speaking truth to power.
