Relocating abroad is not for everyone, especially if you’re financially stable in Nigeria, UK-based singer Candy Bleakz has advised.
Speaking about the realities of living abroad, she urged Nigerians to weigh their options carefully before seeking greener pastures.
The singer, whose real name is Blessing Akiode, shared her perspective on the challenges of living in the UK, warning that the glossy image often portrayed doesn’t reflect the harsh realities many face.
“Why is everyone talking about japa and the UK, and nobody is telling them about the price they have to pay?” she questioned.
“Did you tell them about working every day from 7 to 6? Did you tell them about the cold, the bills, how hard it is to live? Did you tell them that you don’t greet anyhow or walk carelessly in the UK because everywhere you go, there’s a ticket for it?”
Bleakz pointed out that while there is peace in the UK, it comes at a cost. According to her, life abroad demands relentless work just to keep up with bills, leaving little room for leisure or rest.
“One thing I just realised in the UK is that you have to work as though you want to die. Imagine working all your life and the bills are still taking the money,” she lamented. “It’s just that there’s peace here, but you still need money.”
Candy Bleakz advised Nigerians doing well financially to remain in the country rather than endure the stress and monotony of life abroad. She emphasized that relocation should only be considered as a last resort when all hope seems lost in Nigeria.
She concluded by noting the irony that even many Nigerians in the UK dream of returning home.
