Barcelona President, Joan Laporta has made a surprise Dani Olmo registration announcement as he accused La Liga and the RFEF of trying to “destabilise” Barcelona.

Laporta announced on Tuesday that the club is now able to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, thereby killing an “apocalyptic narrative”.

He also accused La Liga and the RFEF of trying to “destabilise” the Catalan giants. The club’s financial difficulties initially prevented them from registering Olmo and Victor for the second half of the season due to La Liga’s wage cap rules.

Their initial request to extend the players’ eligibility was denied, prompting the club to appeal. Last week, the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) granted Barcelona an urgent precautionary measure, allowing the duo to be available for selection until the case was over.

While addressing the media, Laporta said: “We’ve returned to the 1:1 rule, which allows us to sign players normally and register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. This confirms the strength of FC Barcelona and disproves the apocalyptic narrative.

“I was never gonna resign for a decision made by La Liga and the Federation. We don’t give up, but they tried to destabilize the club, the players and the manager. We reacted, we won the Super Cup and I really value that.”

After both players missing the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao due to ineligibility, Olmo and Victor both returned to the Barcelona matchday squad for the final against Real Madrid. Olmo came on as a substitute and clocked 35 minutes on the pitch, while Victor witnessed his team claiming a thumping 5-2 win and clinching the trophy in Jeddah from the bench.

The Supercopa winners have returned to Spain and their next features would seen them in action on Wednesday to take on Real Betis in a Copa del Rey round of 16 fixture
