Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has accused her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as Eezeetee, of spreading false rumors about her son.
Mercy and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on October 28, 2023. Shortly after, rumors began circulating that the baby’s father was fellow gospel musician Nathaniel Bassey.
In a tearful video posted on social media on Tuesday, Mercy claimed that Ezekiel was behind the rumors.
“One of my major crimes was when I did a song with Pastor Nathaniel Bassey. Because this man hates Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, he went as far as sponsoring fake news about my innocent son, saying he’s not my son and paying bloggers to spread it,” she said.
She also accused Ezekiel of trying to control her relationships, saying, “Because you hate Pastor Jerry Eze, you don’t want me to attend his events. The people you dislike, I must fight them with you. When I ask why, you start harassing me.”
Mercy echoed points made by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, in a statement shared on social media on January 25.
She clarified that she had not initiated any legal action against Ezekiel regarding her music catalog, criticizing him for portraying himself as a victim while acting as a “bully.”
The ‘Excess Love’ singer revealed that the toxicity of her relationship with Ezekiel had forced her to move from Port Harcourt to Lagos.
“You have bloggers, I have God,” Mercy declared, expressing confidence that she would overcome the attacks.
