The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 for his daughter’s naming ceremony.

Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest on Saturday, revealing that Waris and an accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were taken into custody on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of Ogun State.

The suspects were accused of targeting a local farm, where they allegedly stole the goat while the farm’s owner, identified only as Mark, was away grazing his cattle on December 25. Upon Mark’s return, he discovered the goat missing and alerted the community, prompting a search effort.

During the community search, some villagers reported spotting Waris and Yusuf transporting the missing goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town. Acting on this tip-off, detectives swiftly launched an operation that resulted in the suspects’ arrest in the early hours of January 2.

During police interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to the theft and provided details of how they stole, transported, and slaughtered the goat on December 27, 2024.

They revealed that the goat was used to prepare food for Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony held in Olodo.

“The suspects confessed to their involvement and are currently in custody, undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch,” Odutola stated.

Odutola assured the public that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded. She also promised to keep residents informed about further developments in the case.

The incident highlights ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Police Command to address theft and ensure justice for victims within the community.
