Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has debunked rumors of his alleged arrest, stating that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The rumor emerged amidst an ongoing feud involving death threats and counter-accusations between Obi and Felix Morka, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement shared via his official Twitter account on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi urged his supporters to disregard the arrest claims, labeling them as entirely false.
“I have been made aware of a circulating fake news about my alleged arrest. Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Such fake news on my person has become a pastime for some people,” Obi tweeted.
Obi further referenced a similar incident in 2024 when rumors falsely claimed he was arrested by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS). He recalled that during a trip to Rwanda last year, similar fake news suggested his house was raided by DSS officials.
“The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive, but let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation,” Obi added.
Meanwhile, Felix Morka addressed the situation during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show. He clarified his earlier remarks about Obi, which reportedly triggered a wave of negative reactions, including death threats.
Morka explained that his comments were a direct response to allegations of Obi being labeled a “voodoo economist” and a “prophet of doom.” He also challenged Obi to present evidence of the alleged threats against his life and family.
