The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragic death of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who was killed by her estranged partner in the Karu Area of Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the Minister condemned the brutal killing and called for justice for Salome and her grieving family.
Salome, a 24-year-old serving corps member at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, was a promising young woman whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
“As a mother, I am devastated by the brutal killing and dismembering of Miss Salome Adaidu,” the statement read.
“This senseless act has no place in our society. It is time for parents and communities across Nigeria to take responsibility for the safety and protection of women, girls, and children. We must all speak out when we see something wrong. The right to life is a fundamental human right that must be safeguarded at all times.”
The Ministry called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salome’s death and demanded that the perpetrator be brought to justice. The Ministry also expressed its support for Salome’s family and vowed to ensure justice is served.
“We stand with Salome’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement continued.
“We urge all Nigerians to unite in condemning this heinous act of violence and to demand an end to the abuse and killing of women and girls in our country. Together, we can build a society where women and girls live free from the fear of violence.”
The Minister also extended heartfelt condolences to Salome’s family and all those affected, stating, “No one deserves to lose their life, especially young women and girls with so much potential ahead of them.”
