Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s commitment to combating corruption, boosting the economy, improving national unity, and reinforcing judicial independence.

Shettima made these remarks at the national conference on strengthening democracy in Nigeria, held in Abuja on Monday, January 27, 2025.

The conference, titled “Strengthening Nigeria’s Democracy: Pathways to Good Governance and Political Integrity,” was organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Shettima acknowledged that democracy is not a flawless system but emphasized that, compared to other forms of government, it remains the best option.

“We will listen and adjust where needed, and we will be accountable in all areas that our challenging democratic system demands,” he said.

“I am confident that Nigeria will rise again, reach its full potential, and lead the way into a future shaped by the lessons of our past, where our youth will actively champion democracy because it resonates with them.”

Shettima further stated, “It has often been said that while democracy is imperfect, it is superior to all other systems. We will continue to demonstrate the value of democratic governance by addressing key issues like improving our economy, securing our communities, fighting corruption, ensuring free and fair elections, strengthening the judiciary, and fostering national cohesion.”

He called on Nigerians to support the current administration in this challenging yet rewarding journey, emphasizing that the Bola Tinubu administration is deeply committed to the quality of the country’s democratic system.
