President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Mahama, of Nigeria’s steadfast support in fostering national development and regional prosperity.

Tinubu made this commitment during Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday in Accra, Ghana’s capital.

Tinubu highlighted the strong bond between Nigeria and Ghana, emphasizing the mutual benefits of their collaboration.

He praised Mahama’s patriotic vision and expressed optimism about the future of both nations under the Ghanaian leader’s administration.

“Even when disagreements arise, we must choose the path of peaceful dialogue. Your new President is a man of patriotic vision and substance; he loves his nation and people deeply. Mahama and I share a deep friendship. My dear brother, I am here to work with you you can always count on Nigeria’s support whenever you call. Together, we will bring prosperity to the people of our two nations,” Tinubu stated.

He continued, “Today, I stand here not only as Nigeria’s President but also as an African committed to Ghana and her people. This moment is a source of pride for Ghanaians, the continent, and its diaspora. I see a black star rising in the African sky, its rays spreading hope, unity, and shared progress across the continent.”

President Tinubu also addressed Africa’s critics, calling on the continent’s leaders to rise above external disparagement. He urged African nations to focus on self-reliance and economic resilience rather than seeking validation from detractors.

“The election of Mahama and past Ghanaian presidents demonstrates West Africa’s capability for democratic and productive governance. It’s time critics of Africa recognize the strides we’ve made. We don’t need to prove ourselves to anyone but our people. Together, we will lift our nations out of poverty and build strong, resilient economies,” Tinubu affirmed.

In his inauguration speech, President Mahama acknowledged Tinubu and other dignitaries, pledging to strengthen ties with Nigeria and neighboring nations within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He vowed to prioritize regional cooperation and development.

Mahama’s election victory marked a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, ending two terms of governance by the New Patriotic Party under President Nana Akufo-Addo.

His opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat after Mahama secured 56.3 percent of the vote, according to the National Democratic Congress.
