A Nigerian mother living in the UK has issued a heartfelt plea for help after a series of distressing events led to her children being taken by social services and her husband’s arrest.

In an interview, the woman shared the details of the events that began on December 3, 2024.

She explained that her daughter, who she had previously raised concerns about with the school, made an allegation against her husband.

“My daughter disclosed something to the school about my husband, which I had always been concerned about,” she said. “My husband was arrested the same day, but by December 8, my daughter retracted her statement.”

Shortly after, social services became involved. “On December 12, social services handed me a letter to attend court at 1 p.m., with the court hearing set for 2 p.m. My children were taken from me immediately after,” the mother recalled.

The court’s decision devastated her. “I was allowed supervised visits with my children, but during one, the social worker accused me of whispering to my daughter and intimidating her. As a result, I was arrested on January 6, 2025, and released on bail with a condition not to see my children.”

The situation escalated when the police confiscated her phones and laptop, isolating her further.

“The police have taken both my phones and my laptop. Durham police and the social workers are being unfair to me because I am the only one fighting this case. I can’t contact my children, nor communicate with my husband on bail,” she said.

In her appeal, the woman turned to the Nigerian authorities, saying, “Please help me. I have no contact at the Nigerian High Commission or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist me.”

She also expressed frustration over the school’s handling of her concerns about her daughter. “I had documented my worries about her behavior and lifestyle for a long time. At one point, the school even questioned whether it was the right environment for her,” she explained.

Her case has generated considerable attention, with many Nigerians in the UK and elsewhere sympathizing with her. She added, “I know many Nigerians face similar situations. Investigations should be conducted, but the way this has been handled is simply unfair.”
