The Commissioner for Police in Ondo State, Mr Wilfred Afolabi, has declared that the state police command is ready for the Local Government election and the operatives would not tolerate any act of violence during the electioneering process
The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday for the conduct of the poll.
The main opposition party in the state—the Peoples Democratic Party—has, however, withdrawn from participating in the election.
Speaking with journalists on Friday at the headquarters of the command in Akure, the state capital, the CP declared that the command was battle-ready to ensure the election was violence-free.
The police boss said, “All of us (policemen), including me, are deployed for the election. We are all going to be at work tomorrow. We are ready for the election, including all the sister security agencies; all of us will be at work.”
The ODIEC Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo, has reiterated that the election would go without any security breach as the commission had put measures in place to ensure the security of lives and property before, during and after the poll.
“Because there is an impression that even having voted, there is not going to be security of property, that people may not come out to vote.
“Now, with the meeting we have had, with all the strategies I have put in place, I can assure you that the election is going to be seamless and peaceful,” Aremo stated
