A 32-year-old mother of three, Oluwatoyin Ibikunle, has called for the dissolution of her 15-year marriage to her husband, Ayodeji, after enduring years of physical abuse and emotional torment.
Appearing before an Akure Customary Court, she revealed her shocking claim that her father-in-law allegedly offered her N50,000 to leave her husband and have an affair with him.
Oluwatoyin described her husband, a 40-year-old vulcanizer, as abusive and irresponsible.
“He turned me into a punching bag and constantly threatened my life,” she said. “I can’t take it anymore.”
She also accused Ayodeji of embarrassing and harassing her, and said he had once asked her to leave their home under the pretext of a renovation.
In her plea, she sought custody of their children, hoping to provide them with a better upbringing away from the toxic environment.
Ayodeji, however, denied the accusations, calling his wife “wayward” and accusing her of prioritizing her business and relationships with other men over their family.
He claimed he had tried to reconcile, but that Oluwatoyin refused to return unless he paid for the rent on her new apartment.
The court’s president, Magistrate Abiodun Obademi, urged the couple to reconsider their decisions for the sake of their children and postponed the hearing until January 28.
