Comedian and actor AY Makun has strongly condemned a fake video circulating online that falsely shows him kissing actress May Edochie.
The manipulated video, created using Artificial Intelligence (AI), surfaced after AY posted footage of himself and May traveling to the UK to promote his latest film, *The Waiter*.
In a post on Instagram, the award-winning filmmaker expressed his anger over the misuse of AI to spread misinformation and damage reputations. He questioned why some young, talented Nigerians are using their skills for harmful purposes instead of promoting positive innovation.
AY also mentioned a similar incident involving reality star Alex Asogwa, who was the target of online lies. He urged young people to use their AI talents to build up the country, rather than tear others down.
“Nigeria has so much potential, and your unique abilities—whether in art, music, technology, or entrepreneurship—can play a huge role in making a positive impact,” he wrote.
“Instead of using your creativity to undermine others who are working hard to improve their lives and contribute to society, let’s focus on supporting each other.”
He continued, “It’s important to understand that every action has consequences. If we choose to bring others down, we only fuel a cycle of negativity and destruction. When will we realize that unity and collaboration will always lead to better results than division? Not long ago, it was @alex_unusual who faced endless lies and narratives just for supporting a family that helped build her brand. Do you really have to push away everyone working with me or trying to make an honest living?”
Makun stressed the need for unity and mutual support, urging people to lift each other up and celebrate achievements.
Both he and May Edochie are currently navigating personal challenges, including reports of strain in AY’s 20-year marriage to Mabel and May’s ongoing marital struggles with actor Yul Edochie.
