Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has asserted that Mojisola Meranda, the current Speaker, stepped down from her position during a recent peace meeting.
Obasa made this statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
According to Obasa, Meranda announced her resignation at a peace meeting held last weekend at the Lagos House in Marina, which was attended by all party leaders.
He said, “During the meeting at Marina, which was attended by all the party leaders, it was clearly stated, with the hope that all members were present, that Meranda herself declared her resignation. She openly stated that she had stepped down.”
Obasa further added, “When someone resigns, their official duties and privileges are relinquished. So, the question is, has the resignation been formalized? Part of the arrangement was for you to step down as well. Let them present the resignation letter. If I were to resign, would I still be here? I’m sure you’d still refer to me as Speaker, even though we’ve never had a conversation.”
