The Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti dismissed the defamation case filed against Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, on Thursday.
The case had been brought by Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, who accused Farotimi of defaming his character in his book titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.”
During the hearing, the prosecution, led by Mr. Martins A. Akala, requested permission from the court to withdraw the charges against Farotimi. Akala explained that the decision was made following instructions from the police authorities. The defense team, headed by Adejare Kembi, did not object to the request.
Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, after hearing both sides, ruled to strike out the case without imposing any costs on either party.
