The Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday allowed access to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following increasing pressure from his family and legal team.

Earlier, Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had raised concerns over the denial of access to both the family and legal representatives at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, confirmed after their visit that they were finally granted permission to see him.

In an interview with Vanguard, Prince Kanu called on the DSS to honor court orders that allow Kanu’s lawyers and family to visit him twice a week. He emphasized that denying access tarnishes Nigeria’s reputation.

He further stated that Kanu is not Nigeria’s problem, but a part of the solution, urging the Federal Government to ensure the DSS adheres to legal directives regarding his brother’s detention.
