Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has hit out at the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, accusing him of “serious amnesia” following his denial of previous remarks allegedly made about President Bola Tinubu.
Ribadu, through his lawyer, Dr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), demanded a public apology and retraction from PDP chieftain Naja’atu Muhammad. Muhammad had claimed in a viral TikTok video that Ribadu once called Tinubu corrupt during his time as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a strongly worded letter, Ribadu denied the allegations, insisting that he never made such statements either publicly or privately, describing the impact of the video as “unquantifiable.”
“The recording you referenced states that when our client served as EFCC Chairman, he allegedly labeled President Tinubu, along with Sen. George Akume and Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, as governors who embezzled the most from the public treasury,” the letter said.
In response, El-Rufai supported Muhammad’s claims, posting a rebuttal on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, accusing Ribadu of selective memory.
“Nuhu must have serious amnesia. Senate records will confirm that he made those statements back in 2006. A Daily Trust article from February 2007 further supports the substance of those remarks,” El-Rufai wrote.
He also referred to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) conclusions from 2006, suggesting they contained evidence of Ribadu’s accusations against Tinubu and others.
“At that Special FEC meeting, where I was present, Nuhu’s EFCC made similar presentations, accusing several officials of the time. These conclusions can be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat at the SGF’s office to clarify any doubts,” El-Rufai added.
“This is for the record, and to remind those who are morally flexible that sometimes silence is no longer golden,” he concluded.
