Nigeria’s Federal Government has approved a $1.7 billion investment for two related initiatives aimed at improving the nation’s healthcare system.
These are the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity – Governance (HOPE-GOVERNANCE) project and the Primary Health Care Provision Strengthening (HOPE-PHC) project. The announcement was made during a recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The HOPE-PHC project focuses on increasing the use of quality healthcare services and strengthening the health system’s resilience across the country.
Meanwhile, the governance reforms under the HOPE-GOVERNANCE project will work to enhance healthcare financing, improve transparency and accountability, and bolster the recruitment, deployment, and performance management of primary healthcare workers at all levels of government.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will lead the HOPE-PHC project, while the HOPE-GOVERNANCE initiative will be managed by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
