Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, widely known as Beyoncé, made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards, securing 11 nominations and taking home two awards, bringing her career Grammy total to an unprecedented 34.
In a groundbreaking moment, she became the first Black woman to win the Best Country Album award for Cowboy Carter.
The award was presented by Taylor Swift, marking a significant milestone for both Beyoncé and the country music genre.
Already the most-awarded Grammy artist of all time, a title she claimed in 2023 with Renaissance, Beyoncé added to her record-breaking collection with two wins at this year’s ceremony.
Taking the stage in disbelief, Beyoncé said, “Wow, I really was not expecting this. Wow, I wanna thank God Oh my God! that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years. Oh my God!” She continued, “I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that embraced this album. We worked so hard on it. Sometimes, I think genre is used as a code to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to follow their passion and stay persistent.”
“Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all the artists who collaborated with me… thank you! This album wouldn’t be the same without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans. I’m still in shock. Thank you so much for this honor.”
Released in March 2024, *Cowboy Carter* was a landmark project that highlighted Black artists in country music. Beyoncé has shared her experiences of not feeling “welcomed” when first exploring the genre, making this win all the more meaningful.
At the 2025 Grammys, Beyoncé received 11 nominations, including for Album of the Year and Best Country Album for *Cowboy Carter*. Her song “Texas Hold ‘Em” earned nods for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Country Song, while 16 Carriages and *Ya Ya* received nominations for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Americana Performance, respectively.
