The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 100-level female student of Delta State University, Agbor, Precious Nosakaire, in connection with the death of a final-year nursing student.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Saturday evening, stating that the suspect had been apprehended, while her boyfriend remains at large.

“Yes, it is confirmed, she killed a nursing student, and another person is currently receiving medical treatment. We have arrested the young girl, but her boyfriend is on the run, and efforts are underway to apprehend him,” he said.

According to PUNCH Metro sources, the tragic event occurred at Delta State University when the first-year student, who was learning to drive, lost control of the car and crashed into a group of pedestrians, leading to the death of the final-year nursing student.

The accident took place on Tuesday, with the suspect’s boyfriend allegedly instructing her behind the wheel.

The vehicle reportedly swerved off the road and struck a group of people on the roadside. Awele, a nursing student set to graduate in November, tragically lost her life, and two others are currently in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

“The girl was learning how to drive when she lost control and hit the pedestrians. A nursing student died on the spot, and another woman, a hairdresser, was seriously injured.

The boyfriend, who owns the car, fled the scene immediately after the incident,” a source told PUNCH Metro.

A representative from the university, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the accident but clarified that it did not occur on campus.

“While we extend our condolences to the family, the university cannot control events outside the school premises. The incident happened in Agbor town. Once students leave campus, they are outside our jurisdiction. Our authority extends only within the university, where students are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations,” the source explained.
