Manchester United have been urged to do everything possible to sign Harry Kane from Bayern Munich after news of his release clause in his contract broke out

Insight Media reported that the England international striker had a release clause in his contract that would have allowed him to leave the German side for just €80 million (£66m) in the recent transfer window, and he currently has one that will be active next January that is set at €65m (£54m).

The 31-year-old has insisted that he is “very happy” at the Bundesliga leaders, but the news of the clause could reignite interest in him from United, who had been linked with the striker before he moved from Tottenham in 2023, and ex-Bayern and Liverpool defender Markus Babbel says the Red Devils should make a new effort to snap him up.

“If I was Manchester United, I’d be doing everything to sign Harry Kane because of this £67 million release clause.

At Manchester United, it’s not acceptable what is currently going on at that club,” Babbel told Wette.de. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and for how many years now have they been struggling. It shouldn’t be possible. They spend so much money too. Every year they seem to be getting worse and still all while spending much more money than before!

“If I was Manchester United, I would be splashing out on signing Harry Kane because he is a quality player and he will score goals, and if you have a striker up front scoring goals then your chances of winning games are much bigger. If I was Manchester United, I’d do everything possible to sign him.

“If I’m Tottenham, I’d be trying to do everything to bring him back to the club too. Since Harry left Tottenham, they’ve been struggling. They want to fight for the Champions League places, but now they need to make sure that they are not relegated instead! Harry is a player that makes other players better. If you see Son Heung-min with Harry Kane, and you see Son now without him, he’s a different player. He was so much better when Harry was at Tottenham.”

The forward will look to improve on his incredible scoring record at Bayern when they meet Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday. United, meanwhile, are preparing for a Premier League clash against his former team, Spurs, on Sunday.
