Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has stated that he has not shown any signs of desperation to secure a ‘free ticket’ or preferential treatment for the 2027 election.

Speaking through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi responded to recent remarks by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, who dismissed claims that the party was planning to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and other 2023 candidates in the upcoming election.

The clarification follows a statement by the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi, who suggested that Obi would be the Labour Party’s candidate in 2027 to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

However, when asked for clarification, Obiora Ifoh rejected the idea, insisting that the report did not come from the Julius Abure faction.

Regarding the recent statement by Abure suggesting there would be no automatic ticket for Obi, Umar emphasized that Obi was unconcerned with such trivial matters.

He added, “Peter Obi remains committed to democracy and the welfare of Nigerians. He has always advocated for a vibrant democracy, where healthy competition and fairness are paramount, as they are essential for the country’s progress.”

Umar further clarified that Obi has never sought special treatment or an automatic nomination.

Instead, he has always emphasized the importance of fair competition, urging supporters and the public to focus on the issues that matter most, rather than being distracted by misleading narratives.

“Peter Obi’s dedication to good governance, economic progress, and social justice remains strong. Let’s work together to build a brighter, more equitable future for Nigeria, grounded in the values of democracy, fairness, and equality,” Umar said.
