In commencing the Imole School eye initiative for public primary schools across Osun State, the Osun Health insurance Agency has commenced test and orientations across various schools in the State.

InsightMedia recalled that Osun State government last week announced the free eye care for 450,000 students of basic schools across the State.

The project, which aimed at ensuring clearer vision and ultimately boost performance of students in their studies, is being implemented by the Osun Health Insurance Agency under the leadership of Dr Rasaq Akindele.

According to our correspondent who paid a visit to various schools on Tuesday, the students were seen taking eye tests which will determine their eye defects and subsequently recommend them for treatment.

Some of the schools visited are Owode Adejunwon Grammar school in Ede North local government Area and CAC Grammar schools, Gbodofon, Osogbo Local Government Area and St Micheal Primary School, Ilobu, Irepodun local government.

One of the teachers who spoke with Insight Media stated that the teachers of various schools had training on how to carry out the tests for the students.

She said, “When we went for the training, we were told to start the screening on Monday, which was 24th of this February, And it will last for three days, Monday to Wednesday.

“The student that we discover that they have eye defects, we have to go take them to the Zone. It’s being allocated zone by zone.

“Students and the teacher will meet at Ataoja School of Sciences on Thursday, that is where we’re going to take them.

“After that, the doctors will attend to the students, give glasses, medications to the students”, she explained.

The Imole School Eye initiative is initiated in order to assist students who struggle with their eyesight to be able to concentrate well in class.
