The Osun Masterminds, a civil society group, has condemned the actions of politicians in the State, for resorting to self-help instead of seeking judicial clarification on the Appeal Court Judgment of February 10, 2025.

According to Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, Executive Director of the Osun Masterminds, “the chaos that has ensued in the State is the outcome of the refusal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to respect the provisions of the rule of law and clear Judicial processes.”

However, The group specifically condemned the mindless killings of several Osun indigenes, including Hon. Remi Abbass, saying “the killing of these persons is a testament to the irresponsible manner in which the Local Government issues have been handled.”

They also criticized the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting the Local Government Elections despite the clear indications of looming anarchy.

“We were shocked that Barr. Hashim Abioye, on whose neck several allegations of partisanship was hanging, decided to proceed with the Elections,” said Prof. Oyedokun-Alli. “The rush was suspicious, and quite irresponsible, especially coming from an organization that should have no vested interest.”

The Osun Masterminds called on all parties to resolve the issues through clear legal processes immediately and to respect the decision of the Courts.

The group also urged all parties to commit to peace and security of lives and properties, especially as the 2026 Gubernatorial Elections approach.

“We must all work together to ensure that the elections are peaceful and that the will of the people is respected,” said Prof. Oyedokun-Alli.

They also advised the Osun State Government to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure a smooth resolution of all issues on ground.

In addition, the group advised staff of the Local Governments to remain non-partisan and align themselves with the rule of law, to ensure they do not become willing tools in the hands of any politician.

“As public servants, they have a duty to serve the people of Osun State, not to serve the interests of any particular politician or party,” said Prof. Oyedokun-Alli.

In a related development, the group condemned the recent increment in the data and call services of telecoms companies in the country, saying it has occasioned further difficulty for Nigerians.

They also commended the Federal Government for the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Osun State, saying it will contribute to national development through qualitative research.
