The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old farmer, Umar Mohammed, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in the state.
The incident occurred on Monday in Farar-Doka village, Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Mohammed accosted the girl on her way to a nearby shop and lured her to a nearby bush where he had carnal knowledge of her.
Sources said the girl came back home around 9.00pm with tears in her eyes and reported the incident to her parent.
The Spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was taken to a general hospital where they confirmed forceful penetration.
“On 27th January, 2025 at about 9am, Police operatives of Bangi Division arrested one Umar Mohammed of Farar-Doka village via Bangi based on a direct complaint that on January 26th at about 8.30pm he raped a little girl.
“The victim, about six years old, was sent on errand to a nearby shop, but she returned late and crying.
“Based on inquiry, it was revealed that the suspect, Umar Mohammed, accosted the victim on the way, took her to a nearby bush and defiled her.
“The victim was taken to general hospital Bangi and the suspect was arrested for interrogation, he confessed to the crime and he has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Abiodun stated.
