Controversial street-hop artist Portable has fired back at Asake following the release of his new single “Military,” which appeared to address criticism of his spoken English. Portable, known for his outspoken nature, has suggested that Asake “hire a teacher.”

On January 5, 2025, Portable posted a video on his Instagram, where he freestyled a song mocking Asake’s English. He rapped, “If you sing one, I’ll sing two. You can’t speak English! Maybe you should get a teacher, olodo. Go and get a teacher. You have money, yet you can’t speak English. Whether or not you’ve been, I’ve not, go and get a teacher. I’m not stupid; I can speak British English well. Olodo rabata.”

Portable’s post stirred up intense reactions, with many scrutinizing his verbal attacks on Asake. Just the day before, Portable teased a diss track he had recorded aimed at Asake and his camouflage outfit worn at the 67th Grammy Awards.

Asake had lost the Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category to Tems, who took home the award for her song “Higher” over other contenders like Yemi Alade, Chris Brown, and Burna Boy.

In his critique, Portable mocked Asake’s Grammy loss, singing, “You wore an army uniform to receive a Grammy, your papa no be army. You wanted to win a Grammy, but they didn’t give you one.”
