A major power outage, caused by technical faults in some feeders operated by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), has left 53 locations, including the Presidential Villa, without electricity.
The fault disrupted power transmission to the R4 Injection Substation at the Three Arm Zone in Aso Drive, which supplies power to the Presidential Villa.
AEDC announced the outage on its official X handle and urged customers to remain patient as its engineers work to restore power as quickly as possible. Affected areas include CKC Gwagwalada, Kuje Road, Almat Farms, and many others within the city, as well as areas like Jahi, Mabushi, Kadokuchi, and parts of Gwarinpa, among others.
This outage is part of a series of technical failures affecting numerous locations across Abuja. Recent reports showed that, between January 1 and February 11, 2025, at least 188 locations within the Federal Capital Territory experienced similar blackouts.
Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has criticized the electricity distribution companies (Discos) for neglecting necessary infrastructure investments.
He blamed their short-term profit focus for the sector’s ongoing deterioration and announced plans for major reforms aimed at restructuring the Discos.
