Veteran Nigerian rapper Michael Stephens, better known as Ruggedman, has shared the reason behind his decision to remain childless.
In a recent appearance on TVC’s Your View Pidgin, the 51-year-old artist explained that, during his younger years, he made a personal vow never to father a child outside of marriage.
“I am not currently in a relationship, nor am I married, and I don’t have any children yet. When I was much younger, I vowed never to have a child out of wedlock,” he revealed.
Ruggedman acknowledged that he occasionally questions if his decision was right or wrong but emphasized that becoming a parent is a serious commitment that should be made with someone he genuinely loves.
He also reflected on his early years in the entertainment industry, suggesting that his career choices may have played a role in his personal decisions.
“I blame entertainment a little because when we entered the industry, we didn’t know much—our focus was solely on the entertainment,” he said.
The Baraje hitmaker recalled a conversation with a friend, who in pidgin said, “Make person never go use him, wife, to do girlfriend.”
Ruggedman explained that, at the time, his priority was his career, and although he met people who liked him, not all of them were ready for the commitment that came with his lifestyle.
