Fashion and beauty mogul Toyin Lawani has shared her personal experience with epidural anesthesia, a common pain relief method for women during childbirth.

In a video posted on Tuesday, the mother of three expressed that since receiving the epidural, she has not felt like herself.

Lawani revealed that doctors often fail to fully inform women about the long-term effects of the procedure.

She has been suffering from chronic back pain and spinal degeneration since receiving the epidural during the births of her last two children.

She warned, “When you hear ‘epidural,’ run. Doctors may tell you about the immediate side effects, but they don’t mention the long-term consequences. I have three friends dealing with the same issues as me.”

At 42 years old, Lawani questioned how she ended up with spine problems. “I have a degenerating spine and implants in my back. I’ve even been paralyzed at times. I can’t stand for long periods, and sometimes I struggle to breathe because the surgery affected so much of my body.”

She continued, “Doctors don’t tell you this because, in the moment, you just want the pain to stop. I’ve had two epidurals. My first birth was natural, but the last two required an epidural, especially the most recent one, when I had no choice due to surgery.”

Lawani concluded, “The pain never stops. My back is killing me, and my spine is deteriorating.”
