A disturbance broke out at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, after a female student allegedly bit a lecturer during a confrontation.
The incident, which unfolded on campus, began when Dr. Chukwudi Michael, a lecturer at the university, interrupted the student while she was filming a dance video in the faculty corridor.
According to eyewitnesses, the student was dancing with someone recording her when Dr. Michael attempted to pass by. He tapped her on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me,” but she appeared upset, exclaiming, “Can you imagine how he just hit me?”
The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with the student aggressively grabbing the lecturer’s clothing as bystanders attempted to intervene.
A viral video circulating on social media captured the moment the student confronted the lecturer, insisting she had been struck.
Another video showed Dr. Michael raising his hands in an apparent attempt to remain calm while the student held onto him forcefully.
When reached for comment, UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and stated that an internal investigation was underway. “Yes, there was an incident like that. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will announce its position once the findings are complete,” Chukwurah said.
He added that Dr. Michael claimed he overheard the student insulting him after he passed by, prompting him to return and check if she was one of his students.
The lecturer reportedly suspected she was filming a TikTok video and did not want to appear in it. He allegedly asked her to delete the video, but the student responded by biting him on both arms. Images circulating online show visible bite marks on his arms.
Reports suggest that the student involved is a 300-level History and International Studies major and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.
