Senator Ned Nwoko has explained that his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was due to his inability to work with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. Nwoko formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 31.

The Delta North lawmaker cited the deep divisions and internal conflicts within the PDP as the main reasons for his exit, stating that the growing factions had become impossible to reconcile.

In response to claims by Oborevwori’s aide, Fred Oghenesivbe, who suggested Nwoko left out of fear of losing his PDP ticket in 2027, Nwoko clarified on Monday: “I left because I want to garner the support of the ruling party for the creation of Anioma state. The governor and Okowa, who lead the PDP, are opposed to Anioma state. I sought support from the PDP National leadership, but they were too caught up in destructive infighting and failed to provide direction.”

Nwoko also accused Governor Oborevwori of stifling his ability to function effectively, dismissing several campaign promises such as the Okpai power plant and Ogwashi-Uku dam projects due to alleged funding issues. He added that he was not allowed to recommend any board members, commissioners, or local government chairmen. “I had no choice but to join the ruling party to attract projects to my constituency. Time is running out,” Nwoko said.

In response, Delta State’s Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated that the PDP would not miss Nwoko, who is married to actress Regina Daniels. “This is the same person who defected to APGA in 2003, and PDP won; again in 2011, he left for DPP, and PDP won. Now he has left PDP, but we’re not concerned because PDP will win Delta North in 2027,” Aniagwu said.

He emphasized that the party’s focus now is on governance, not politics, but confidently stated that the PDP will prevail when the time comes.
